Ari’s hand slammed against the glass with a force that startled people coming and going as she exited The Silo’s lobby. With a burst of anger, Ari stormed onto the street, feeling violated as the memory replayed in her mind. She couldn’t wrap her head around how she allowed that woman to manipulate her into a total disregard of her morals.

“What the fuck was that?” Ari asked herself, almost shouting in the afternoon twilight.

In the past, she had done some revolting things, such as eating someone else’s food from the trash for the sake of a job. But this was far worse. A complete stranger took advantage of her and somehow convinced her to bare herself for what ... a “don’t call us, we’ll call you” brush off? Her heels clacked on the sidewalk, slamming down in frustration toward the L-Line. She grabbed her phone and dialed Billie, needing to vent.

As soon as Billie answered, a torrent of questions rained down upon her. “Hey, how’d it go? Did you get the job? What are you gonna be doing? Where are you now?”

The mere sound of Billie’s voice mollified her anger a few notches. Even with the multitude of questions demanding her response, it was Billie’s enthusiasm that always carried Ari through difficult times. This was one of them. “So, hi. I’m on my way back to my place.”
