When Salvy and Alyssa left the girls, they headed to the other side of the island by way of Jeep. He wanted to show her the heart of the island; where the magic happened.
“Grandfather thought you were perfect,” Salvy stated, as they drove away from the hotel and guest accommodations.
“I’m far from perfect,” Alyssa said with a head shake.
“In his eyes, you were. He called you his perfect little angel. No matter how many children he helped birth, no one compared to you. Heck, even your offspring couldn’t compare to the original—always lacking that quality or look he preferred.”
“Do I detect a hint of inadequacy in your voice?” Alyssa asked, glancing in Salvy’s direction.
It sparked a little animosity. “Fuck you.”
Alyssa chuckled. “Seriously, Rivera’s obsession with me is just that: an obsession. I am not perfect, never was. And I never will be.”
“I agree.” Salvy stepped on the gas and sped through down into the dense jungle of the island.
They arrived at a solid cement building, very cold and uninviting. More like a sighting in a Jurassic Park movie—a scientific bunker.
They entered through a secured door opened by Salvy’s eye retina. As soon as the door closed behind them, the security locks bolted shut with a hiss.
“What’s with the security? I mean, it’s not like you are hiding sin. There’s naked people running all about the island.” Alyssa asked.
“This is wear science happens. Follow me.” He motioned her on.
