After being hit on the head, she woke up in darkness. Time seemed to go on and on; without a clock, Rachel did not know how long she had been away from Alyssa. Fear set in, and Rachel screamed for her girlfriend—or anyone—to help. After hours of crying, she was all out of tears.

When a light appeared overhead, she could see the underground prison they put her in. It was dirty and dank.

Rivera came down the stairs dressed in white slacks and a light blue shirt. He wore a fedora, even inside this cave-like chamber. Not a place for someone dressed in a pristine wardrobe.

Another man followed him. Rivera was on a cellphone, talking as he walked downstairs. When he clicked the speaker, she could hear Alyssa’s voice.

“Help! Alyssa!” Not that it would do much, but at least it was her way of giving faith that she was still alive.

He turned on the camera. “See. She is still alive and unharmed.”

It was quick.

The two men left the room.

Alone again.
