Rachel is missing...
Alyssa hollered out in the empty room, “Rachel?”
When there was no answer, she rose from the bed, dizzy with a throbbing ache in her head. She rubbed the sore spot toward the back of her neck as she walked in the bathroom.
Empty.
She glanced around the room and finally saw the handwritten note on the nightstand.
Come home and all will be right with your world.
After reading it, fear filled her chest. Another emotion she had not felt since she was a teenager running for her life. Señor Rivera had Rachel. “FUCK!”
She had to get her back unharmed.
Without a shower, Alyssa bolted out the door and headed to the office where she could find Angela Ortega, the head of the investigation. When security would not allow her to pass through the barricades, she forced herself through, running from the police.
Gunshots were fired, but she didn’t care.
She finally dipped into the tent and through the door. As she blasted through the door, more guns were drawn. Angela’s eyes widened as she, too, drew her revolver.
When she realized it was Alyssa, she screamed out. “Stand down. I said stand down.”
Agents in the room lowered their pistols.
Alyssa caught her breath as Angela ran out of the office. “That is a surefire way to be killed.”
“I don’t care. He has Rachel,” Alyssa huffed, still panting from exhaustion.
“Who has Rachel?” Angel asked.
“Rivera. He took her.”
“How do you know he took her?”
