The official introduction of Alyssa...

Attempting to come in early and reply to some emails, Rachel walked into a ringing phone call. The caller was a customer who wanted to place a large order. A few moments later, another call rang in. A problem with a shipment had caused an uproar with a vendor. That call was taking longer than she expected.

Toni, her daughter-in-law who worked with her, walked into her office. With the still-noticeable gash on her nose, Rachel motioned Toni to wait a minute until she could get off the phone. The two of them hadn’t seen each other since before the accident, but Toni was aware of the injury from her husband—Rachel’s son, who was told by his grandmother, Rachel’s mother.

News traveled fast in the family.

Before Rachel could get off the phone with the customer, Alyssa stepped into the same office and dropped a cup of hot coffee and a bag containing some egg bites for breakfast. Since Rachel was on the phone, Alyssa left it on the side of her desk and then left.

It wasn’t long before Rachel could get off the phone with her client. When she did, Toni immediately stated and asked, “That doesn’t look as bad as they made it sound... and who was that?”

“I’ve had a week of recovery already. It was worse. And that is Alyssa.” Rachel’s wide smile was apparent.

“Is she the new girl?” Toni inquired. And she’s already bringing you breakfast and coffee?” Toni questioned.

“She’s nice.” Rachel tried to make her smitten expression less noticeable.

It didn’t work.

Toni knew something was up. “You’re into her!”

“Stop.” The mother-in-law mode turned on quickly. “She’s nice. We were the only people here for two days; we got to know each other.”

“Then she’s into you,” Toni defended her suspicions.

Rachel’s wide smile didn’t stay away long. “Okay, fine. We kissed on New Year’s Eve.”
