The horror that Katherine had witnessed and lived through made Arianta cringe in sadness. By feeding a human to Katherine, they had created a monster. Even though Katherine's situation had been a terrifying ordeal, she had done the same thing to Arianta, which made it unfair and infuriating.

“You did the same thing to me by feeding yourself to me, and I assume you made me eat part of myself. Why would you do that to me? I'm sorry that happened to you. It wasn't right then, and it isn't right now,”

“I wasn't planning on you living,” Katherine replied. The regret in her eyes indicated that things didn't go as planned.

“So, what? You got off on watching me do it until that what? And why didn't you kill me when you had the chance? There were plenty of opportunities for you to have cut out my heart and eaten it for lunch,” Arianta demanded to know.

The room fell silent, and the wait for Katherine's response seemed like an eternity. In the past, Katherine had spoken with authority, as if she dominated conversations. But then, at that moment, her voice seemed to have vanished into thin air. She paced what little small space there as in front of the bed while she struggled with the words. “I fell in love with you.”

It was unlikely that was a lie. The woman in front of her was vulnerable. Not physically, but emotionally. Arianta had returned to the hotel for answers. There was nothing to gain or lose because she had already lost everything, including her health. The woman in front of her appeared broken, yet she possessed a tall, athletic frame and rugged beauty that Arianta found irresistible.
