A not so happy reunion...
All was quiet as Rachel soaked in the white porcelain clawfoot tub in the bathroom. Alyssa sat next to her with a soft and gentle caress of the sponge on her back. The water had already turned a dirty gray as she wiped her down.
She had been held captive in a basement, had been spit on, and had dried food caked on her face and chest. The smell of urine and feces had finally subsided, and the scent of lavender filled the room. Her body was sore from being bound to a chair, and when she was finally allowed to stand and walk, it was only to be dragged onto a plane. They had violated her body from head to toe, inside and out.
Alyssa knew nothing of what she had been through.
Alyssa used the cloth to gently clean the dirt and dried blood from the laceration on her temple. As the dirt washed from her body, the scrapes and bruises became visible.
As much as she was glad to be free and with Alyssa, she regretted her decision to come with her. She never expected this to have happened to her.
When the water chilled, Alyssa helped her out of the tub and led the way to a hot shower where she could wash her hair and the leftover muck from the tub water.
Then Alyssa left the room.
How could this be her life? Every inch of her body hurt, including that spot between her legs in which various men had invaded her without her consent. Both holes were raw and tender, but she didn’t want to tell Alyssa that. Alyssa had endured much of the same—just as a child instead of an adult. The last few days had been the worst trauma of her life. Worse than being beaten by her husband. Worse than being injected by meth.
At least she had her mother to run home to. This time, there was no one to help. Both she and Alyssa were kidnapped and stuck on an island without a way out.
And that thought broke what was left of Rachel’s spirit. She dropped to the floor of the shower, tucked into a little ball, and wept.
