A sexual photoshoot and a shocking discovery

Avery decided not to tell Ren about the connection between Corina and Teagan; she thought it was best to confront Corina herself first. While Cornia posing with Jeff was not wrong, it was the scene that concerned Avery. The man’s face said he was not a willing participant. If that was the case, this was not art; it was abuse.
On campus, she searched high and low for Corina. When Avery reached the quad, she found Maxine sitting at a table reading a book. Since Maxine was alone, she turned away, having no reason to talk to the woman, but Maxine’s voice stopped her from leaving.
“Avery, I’m so glad I found you. I wanted to apologize for what happened at the last shoot. Trust me, I never expected Corina to do that to you. Honestly, her recent behavior was appalling. The way she has treated me—and now you. I’m sorry she did that.” There was a hint of melancholy, dancing with the truth in those words.
Avery had no reason to not believe her. Maxine had been nothing but cordial and accommodating during each shoot. “No worries. It’s not your fault, and besides, you can’t help that your boyfriend is a dickwad.”
Maxine shrugged, hanging her head, unease on her face. “About that... Terry didn’t do this to me.” She still had fading bruises. “That was the product of Corina and her brilliant idea to help me break up with him. Long story, but again. Corina doesn’t do things the easy way.”
Avery cringed at the thought of being caught in the middle of Corina’s schemes. “Speaking of Corina, I’m looking for her. Know where she is?”
She shook her head. “Nope. After our spat last night, I think I may be done with her. Well, I hope I am. Are you still using her as a model?”
