Road trip to Miami for Alyssa and Rachel
As Alyssa, along with Rachel, stepped through the front door of the office to begin their trip to Miami, Joanne pulled Rachel off to the side while Alyssa continued to the Jeep. She had a one-track mind; she didn’t even realize Rachel wasn’t behind her.
“She’s been through a lot. I don’t know how much he has told you,” Joanne said softly.
“Almost nothing. I just put two and two together. This must be hard for her. I can’t even imagine.”
“I should not have assumed you would go with him. Will your family be fine with you going with Alyssa? We can say it’s a work trip. I’ve just seen what good friends you two have become. She needs a friend right now,” Joanne said.
Rachel, too, had forgotten about everyone in her life for a while. It was one thing to have a new friend, but running off with her might not sit well with the already strained relationships with her children. It wasn’t like Toni didn’t know there was something brewing on the romantic front. “Please. Let’s say this is a work trip, especially for Toni. Alyssa needs a friend with her.”
Rachel hurried to the Jeep. They sped off as soon as the door shut.
